The MPI Group

MPI Data Limited is a Jersey-based business that was launched in 2012 as a new STEP Member Service and is distributed free to STEP members and Private Client Practitioners.

Its core aim when originally established was to bring about transparency and understanding between the trustee and discretionary investment management professions with regard to communicating investment risk and understanding investment returns.

Today, MPI has become the independent peer group benchmark trusted by trustees, professional advisers and investment managers.

The STEP Member Service reaches out to STEP's 23,000+ professionals worldwide every quarter with its quarterly performance updates.

Trustee Investment Governance Application (TIGA)

TIGA, a new investment gatekeeping and governance platform developed by MPI Apps Limited and is built on that same trusted MPI data. Through its reporting, TIGA gives trustees a clear, independent view of how investment managers are performing against a recognised peer benchmark. This supports better oversight, stronger governance, and more confident decision-making. MPI is management-owned and controlled, and is led by a Team of experienced Investment, Tech and Trust professionals.

A STEP Member Service

In 2012, STEP reached an agreement with the MPI Group that the Managed Portfolio Indices could be provided as a free service for its members. The service was designed to promote transparency of investment performance and to enable STEP Members and other Private Client Practitioners to have a commonality of language with the investment management industry. This would help to ensure that suitable investment strategies were selected and that performance could be judged objectively.

The concept of a STEP Member Service was that it would provide key relevant information and resources to all STEP members, whether full members, students or affiliates. It was accordingly embraced by STEP on the basis that the information MPI provides is considered to be of importance to persons working in a fiduciary capacity. For this reason, MPI has been uniquely positioned to offer this free STEP Member Service, providing members with access to its trusted independent peer group benchmark data and reports.
